Overview of Research

This laboratory focuses on IE research aimed at problem solving related to the quality, cost, and delivery dates of industrial products, as well as the safety and fatigue of workers in manufacturing sites. In order to expand the scope of IE, the lab investigates not only the manufacturing industries but also other industries such as construction and service sites.

Major Taught Courses

Engineering Economy, Production Management, etc.

Research Contents

Since IE is a practical science, we aim to promote research that contributes to production sites, and we are conducting research on developing methodologies and systems that are useful in the field. When promoting research, we will take various approaches based on the IE concept. For example, we gain new knowledge by planning experiments using an ergonomic approach and analyzing experimental data obtained through experiments with human subjects. We also develop systems through repeated trial and error using a machine learning approach. In other words, we will consider methods according to the purpose of the research.

Educational Policies:

1) We will improve students’ “problem-finding ability” by students go to production sites, observe phenomena occurring on-site, collect and analyze data, and conduct interviews with on-site personnel.
2) We will Improve students’ “problem-solving ability” by defining and modeling the finding problem, operating the model in various ways to devise a solution, and then applying it to the fields.
3) We will also improve students’ “explanatory ability” to assert their own ideas, understand the ideas of others, and have constructive discussions while promoting research.
